Interesting Inverness

I do a bit of photography tuition and I had tasked one of my students a project to shoot three portraits showing the sitter in an environment that says something about them. The three she chose were quite compelling and it got me to thinking that there must be people in Inverness that would make really interesting portrait subjects so I’ve decided to start a personal project shooting exactly that.

I have a few people in mind and, hopefully, I’ll get my first one done this weekend but what I’m looking for is suggestions for the people of Inverness that you find interesting. It could be you, a friend, a relation, a workmate, etc. What I’m looking for is people with an interesting hobby, job, business, personality, dress sense, pet, tattoo, you get the picture! Something that raises them above ordinary. I’ll post the images on my blog and on here so don’t be shy. I’m only going to show one image from each person which will, hopefully, say everything about them.

If you have any suggestions, send me an email to thegreenroom@mcintoshphotography.co.uk and I’ll take it from there. if it’s not you you’re getting in touch about then a contact email or phone number would be useful too!!

Thanks

Schools out, we’re not!!

School holidays, just as the summer ones finish, suddenly it’s October and it’s holiday time again! If you want something different to try, why not book a photoshoot with us? At McIntosh Photography we have packages and styles to suit all ages of kids from studio photo shoots to woodland walk photo shoots and our new graffiti portrait shoots. There is literally something for everyone.

Some Photographers set themselves up with studios at this time of year in public spaces where they rely on the quantity of people passing by to make it profitable. Trouble is, it’s a very impersonal experience where, after the pictures have been taken you’ll have to view them on a tiny screen on the back of the camera and choose the ones you want there and then. That’s after you’ve handed over probably more that £50 to someone who won’t be there next week.

We like to do things a bit differently. When you get in touch, we’ll discuss who is having the photoshoot and the style of images you want. When you come along for your shoot, you’ll be here for around one hour although don’t book any important appointments for right afterwards as we’re usually having such a good time we sometimes over run!

After your shoot we’ll arrange a suitable time for you to come back to the studio and view your images, where we can discuss what you want the images for and the best way to display them.

For our Studio Photo shoots, Woodland Walk Photo shoots and our new Graffiti Portraits the sitting fee has been reduced to only £35, and with a buy one get one free offer on all prints, it’s a fantastic gift opportunity with Christmas just around the corner.

To book a session, just call us on 01463 456789 or email thegreenroom@mcintoshphotography.co.uk

Graffiti Portraits-Photographs with difference

It’s the portrait craze that started in the States and now it’s over here! We commissioned graffiti artist Marc Delay to create a bespoke piece of graffiti art for us to use as a background for our unique graffiti portraits.

These portraits are really colourful and, because we are the only Photographers who will have access to the wall, these are pieces of art unique to McIntosh Photography.

These portraits sessions can be used by everyone. Kids, teens, adults, families, couples, grannies, grandads, engagements, the list goes on and on and with our sitting fees reduced to £35 and a buy one get one free offer on prints, you can have a piece of art hanging on your wall at an affordable price.

We have sessions available so why not book your shoot now? It’s a fantastic opportunity to own a unique portrait. Contact us at thegreenroom@mcintoshphotography.co.uk to book your session.

Shooting Fish

It’s not often anyone gets the chance to meet one of their musical heroes but that’s exactly what happened when we were asked to shoot the musician Fish during an interview for InvernessGiGs (www.invernessgigs.co.uk). He was due to play The Ironworks (www.ironworksvenue.com) on Sunday night so we had arranged the interview and photographs for 4ish. Unfortunately, these things never go to plan and things ran a bit late so we had a limited amount of time to get some shots before his sound check. We were ushered into his dressing room at the Ironworks and waited a few minutes until he had got a few things sorted on his computer. The dressing rooms are not conducive to great portrait photography as there are no windows so we had to resort to some off camera flash. Not ideal. Sorry Fish, it was the only way to get any decent results!! Maybe, if you ever come back to Inverness, you can pop round to the studio first?

It was brilliant listening to him and the full interview will appear on invernessgigs soon. After that it was home to get the pictures edited, upload a couple to Facebook to promote his gig, grab a bite to eat then back to the Ironworks to shoot the actual gig. It’s refreshing nowadays to have a musician actually telling the crowd it’s OK to shoot pictures although, being a fan and trying to take pictures and sing at the same time is quite difficult!! The whole gig was an acoustic session with Fish asking the crowd what they wanted to hear. Over 2 hours of brilliant music made for a fantastic night and, having followed Fish since his Marillion days back in the early 80′s, it was the fulfilment of a dream for myself.

We’ve dropped our prices!!

We’ve given our website a wee revamp and to celebrate the fact that we can now get away from the front of the computer we’ve decided to have a wee revamp of our prices as well!! All our portrait sessions have been reduced in price to only £35 for an hour. That’s all our portrait sessions from studio shoots, graffiti portraits to woodland walk photoshoots, they’re all now £35. And that’s not all. Buy a print from your photoshoot and get another one of the same size absolutely free, and doesn’t have to be the same image! I should maybe whisper this but, with Christmas fast approaching, photographs make great presents and with our buy one, get one free offer you can keep one and give one as a gift.

Hannah’s photoshoot – a sneak preview

Hannah and her family are going to see all the photographs on Monday evening but I thought I would post a wee sneak preview first!

A beautiful sunny evening in Inverness helped but Hannah, who had never been to a photoshoot before, was quickly into her modelling stride, even down to taking a change of clothes for two different looks!

With so many brilliant locations in close proximity to each other, for a Professional Photographer, Inverness is a city that makes it a joy to work in and with £25 off of our Fashionable Teenagers Photoshoots, there’s never been a better time to have Professional pictures taken of your teenage son or daughter. It’s great fun. Just ask Hannah or Becca!

Photoshoot with Becca

Now that Becca has seen the pictures, I can post some more. All these pictures were taken at locations within 2 minutes walk of each other in Inverness. Outdoor shoots are brilliant because of the different background that can be used for different styles of pictures.

Our fashionable teens photoshoots currently have £25 off and make brilliant gifts. To book a session contact us at thegreenroom@mcintoshphotography.co.uk

Sparkle in the rain (pardon the pun)!

We braved the weather on Saturday night to go and watch Big Country and Simple Minds play the Northern Meeting Park in Inverness. To say it rained would be a bit of an understatement. We got literally soaked to the skin but it was made up by a great set from both bands. I only had my wee compact camera with me but I was impressed by some of the shots I managed to get standing in the crowd. The full set are on my Facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/McIntosh-Photography/124566787596336

Have a look and let me know what you think. If you want to be kept up to date with what we’re up to and to see our latest offers, then click the like button at the top of the page.

How long does my session last?

Our photography sessions normally last around one hour but we don’t just put the camera away as soon as the time is up. Our photo session are designed to get the best out of our sitters and that may take a while. Babies and toddlers are a case in point. Until they get used to being in the studio with flashing lights and everyone watching, they’ll just do their own thing. It’s interesting watching young kids seeing the studio lights going off for the first time. Some kids love it, some are a bit wary but after a while the forget they’re there and begin to have fun. Having a stock of toys in the studio certainly helps!

For older kids there’s the opportunity to wear a few different outfits and change during the photoshoot. The same goes for teenagers and adults. This is your photoshoot and we want you to have fun. This makes for great pictures and before you know it, time has flown in and we’ve went way over time but that’s just how it goes. If you’re considering booking a session, allow an hour but be prepared to wonder where all the time went.
